George Eddie Senior
and the Eddie/Rae Family

At the time of the death of George Eddie in 1904, Anna's father and my great-grandfather, George's father, George Eddie senior was still alive, and was stationmaster of the Glenbervie Railway station. Glenbervie, in Kincardineshire is the family home were George Sr was born, where he married. Jean Rae, the wife of George senior died the year after her son George, in 1905

George and Jean were married in 1851 in Glenbervie. George was

George Jr was born on the 3 of March, 1855, in Cotterdrum, Balgavies, Aberlemno, Forfar, Angusshire.

In 1871, George Sr was living in the Railway Station in Glenbervie as stationmaster, with his wife, son James, 14 and young daughter Mary, 6.

In 1881, George Sr was living in the Railway Station in Glenbervie as stationmaster, with his wife and young daughter Mary.

In 1881, George Jr, 26, was living at 20 Thistle St, Govan, Lanarkshire. This was two years before he was married in Hutchesontown. He was a border with the Wrights: Alexander, 64; his wife Helen, 62; and his daughter Mary, 29, listed as an artist. The Wrights were all born in Glasgow. I wonder if there was a relationship between them and the husband of McAnsh.

Most of the data for both the Rae or Eddie families is from GRO information until it passes into the old parish records (OPR). The absence of scans or much hard information for these from the GRO has led me to use IGA information which is from the microfilms of the OPR.

The map above shows the relalation of the towns. Forfar, at the bottom centre is where Jean Rae and her parents lived. Glenbervie is where George Sr was born, where he married Jean, and where hw lived as stationmaster. Aberlemno much of the way towards Forfar along the rail or the current A90, is where George Junior was born. The Eddies apparently lived there for a short while.
